Certificate Installation

Certificates must be in PKCS12 format (e.g., .pem or .cer). Android devices accept this format without any problems. The PKCS12 format offers the simplest installation process.

Android

The certificate can be installed manually from your smartphone's storage. For manual installation, the certificate is required as a .pem file on the smartphone. Follow these steps:

  1. Transfer the .pem file to the smartphone's Downloads folder, for example.

  2. Open the smartphone's Android settings.

  3. Select the Security & Screen Lock menu / Encryption & Login Credentials / Install from SD Card.

  4. Navigate to the directory where you saved the certificate file, and open it.

  5. If prompted, enter the device's PIN.

  6. Next, enter a name of your choice for the certificate.

You can check whether the certificate was installed successfully in the Android settings under the Security & Screen Lock / Encryption & Credentials / Trusted Credentials / Users menu. Your certificate, along with the name of the organization listed on it, should now be displayed here.

The names of the menu items may vary depending on the Android version.

Another option is to download it: Offer the certificate as a download and download it to your smartphone via your browser. You can then start the installation by clicking on the certificate or by going to "Settings" on your smartphone.

iOS

The certificate can be installed via Mobile Device Management (MDM) by your system administrator or manually from your smartphone's storage. For manual installation, the certificate is required as a .pem file on the smartphone. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the stored certificate to access the configuration profile.

  2. You can install the certificate in the configuration profile.

  3. If prompted, enter the device's PIN.

  4. Enable the certificate by going to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings.

You can view the installed certificate under Settings / General / Profile.

Using VPN Apps (iOS, Android)

On the connection page of the Intrexx Mobile app, you can connect to the Intrexx portal server by entering the portal address. Before proceeding, make sure you have sufficient permissions to access the server. If necessary, You need VPN access. Please contact your system administrator for assistance. Access can be set up as follows:

  1. The access information is entered manually in your device's system settings

  2. Access is registered via a VPN application

The VPN connection must be established before accessing the portal. You can establish the connection using any VPN app. Some VPN apps allow other apps to launch them. This app can launch the Intrexx app directly. Here are the supported VPN apps (subject to change):

  • Android

    • SonicWall

    • Checkpoint VPN

    • Cisco AnyConnect

    • F5 Access

  • iOS

    • SonicWall

    • Checkpoint VPN

    • Cisco AnyConnect

    • F5 Access

Access may need to be must be created manually before the portal goes live. To do this, launch the VPN app and then register the connection or establish the connection.

Authentication - Technical Adjustments

No additional settings are required for portals that use Intrexx authentication. Register the portal using its HTTPS URL in the Intrexx Mobile app, and log in with your Intrexx username and password.

Portals that use Active Directory for user authentication must be slightly modified to allow the Intrexx Mobile App to access them. First, the LDAP server's SSL certificate must be imported into the portal properties if the server is accessible via the LDAP protocol on port 636 using encryption. If it is listening in clear text via the LDAP protocol on port 389, this is not necessary.

Now add another authentication module to the "LucyAuth.cfg" file in the portal directory internal/cfg. Adjust the Active Directory server's provider URL to match your environment, and then copy the entire section into the LucyAuth.cfg file—for example, at the end of the file.

            IntegratedMobileAuth
{
	de.uplanet.lucy.server.auth.module.integrated.IntegratedLoginModule sufficient
		debug=false;

	de.uplanet.lucy.server.auth.module.ldap.LdapBindLoginModule sufficient
		java.naming.provider.url="ldaps://example.domain:636"
		java.naming.security.authentication="simple"
		java.naming.security.principal="$[DN]"
		debug=false;

	de.uplanet.lucy.server.auth.module.anonymous.AnonymousLoginModule sufficient
		debug=false;
};

If the connection to the Active Directory server via LDAP is unencrypted, please adjust the provider URL accordingly. Port 389 is usually used in such cases.

Enter the name of the new authentication module (IntegratedMobileAuth) in the "om.cfg" file in the portal directory /cfg under the "Web" binding scope:

            <binding scope="web" auth-type=" IntegratedMobileAuth"/>

If authentication against Active Directory is required, the request must be made via an HTTPS-encrypted web page on the web server, with anonymous authentication enabled and Windows authentication disabled.

A second website is not required if users who are not in Active Directory are to be able to log in to the portal when Integrated Windows Authentication is enabled. If all users are stored in Active Directory, simply enabling Basic Authentication in IIS is sufficient.

Then restart the portal service. In both scenarios, we expect encrypted connections via SSL/TLS for security reasons.

Both users of the Intrexx Mobile app and users who access the portal via a desktop browser can now log in to the portal using their Active Directory username and password.

Officially Signed Certificate

If you are already using an officially signed certificate, you can now enter the URL of your Intrexx portal within the app. If the connection request is successful, you will then be prompted to authenticate. If you use a self-signed certificate, a configuration file containing the full certificate chain must be stored on the end device. In order for the self-signed certificate to be trusted, the respective device must recognize the chain of CA certificates. You must bundle the certificates in this chain into a profile using any software (e.g., via Apple Configurator 2 or AirWatch). You then install it on the devices. The self-signed certificate itself does not need to be included in the profile. Please keep in mind that if you access the system from outside the company network, you will also need a mobile VPN client.

Register an API Key

Registered customers can request the API key for receiving push notifications from the portal on their mobile device at Intrexx Support Center. Enter it in the "Tools" module.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

Why can't I access my portal?

Possible solution:

  • The portal server is not running.

  • The URL is incorrect.

  • The portal requires HTTPS (authentication against Active Directory); the URL was accessed via HTTP (only possible with Intrexx authentication).

  • If you are using a self-signed certificate, import the certificate chain onto the mobile device.

  • The current network does not allow access to the portal (for example, the portal is accessible only via the intranet or through a VPN).

  • Incorrect Intrexx version. At least Intrexx 8 OU 17 is required.

Why can't I log in?

Possible solution:

  • The portal server is not running.

  • The username, password, or domain is incorrect.

  • Authentication in the portal is set up incorrectly.

Why am I not receiving push notifications?

Possible solution:

  • The option is not selected in the mobile app's portal settings.

  • Device token not stored in the Intrexx portal (e.g., deleted manually via the Portal Manager). Temporarily turn off the option to receive notifications in the portal settings, then turn it back on.

  • An error occurred in Intrexx while creating or sending the push notification (check portal log and workflow.log).

  • Android: The app was closed via the Android app settings ("Force Stop").

iOS: I received a push notification, but I don't see it in the app.

Possible solution:

  • The app was closed via the list of recently opened apps.

I selected a desktop layout using Intrexx's mobile layout switcher, and now I can't switch back to the mobile layout.

Possible solution:

  • Delete cookies in the mobile app's settings.

Why am I still receiving push notifications even though the portal has been deleted?

Possible solution:

  • The Intrexx portal was unavailable on the smartphone while attempting to remove the registration, and the device token could not be removed. Manually remove the device token in the portal.

When you click on a push notification, the Intrexx portal's login page opens instead of the destination page.

Possible solution:

  • Set page permissions.
