Proxy Servers in Intrexx
Proxy servers can be used for various purposes or scenarios within the Intrexx architecture. Depending on the purpose, the settings are configured in different locations within Intrexx.
Below is an overview of the dialog boxes in Intrexx where you can configure proxy server settings and the scenarios they support.
Intrexx Options
You can find the first dialog box for proxy server settings under "Tools > Options > Proxy."
You can use the settings in this dialog box to control the following scenarios.
User Authentication on the Portal Server
Using a proxy server, you can insert an additional "layer of security" between Portal Manager and Portal Server. The proxy server can monitor communication between the Portal Manager and the Portal Server. You can specify users who must first authenticate with the proxy server before they can access the portal server.
Restrictions
Please note that, in general, you can only use a proxy server if it is running on Linux or Mac OS.
If you use a proxy server for authentication, this is only possible if the proxy server runs on Linux.
It is not possible to use a proxy server running on Windows.

Access to the Intrexx Update Server
If updates are available for Intrexx, you will be notified in Portal Manager.
You must have Internet access to download the updates. If you control Internet access through a proxy server, you'll need to configure the appropriate settings here, depending on your proxy server's configuration. The connection to the proxy server can be established without authentication or using Basic authentication.
The URL for the Intrexx Update Server is: https://onlineupdate.intrexx.com
Please note that you must also configure the proxy server settings for server software updates if you want to perform an update via Portal Manager. For more information, see the " Software Update Settings" section .
Download Templates
You can download application templates, layout templates, and portal templates from the Intrexx template server via the Internet. If you control Internet access through a proxy server, you'll need to configure the appropriate settings here, depending on your proxy server's configuration.

Displaying News on the Portal Manager's Home Page
News is displayed on the Intrexx Portal Manager home page.
Internet access is required to view the latest news.
If you control Internet access through a proxy server, you'll need to configure the appropriate settings here, depending on your proxy server's configuration.

Software Update Settings
You can find another dialog box for proxy server settings under "Tools > Server Software Update Settings."
The settings in this dialog box allow you to control access to the Intrexx Update Server. The connection to the proxy server can be established without authentication or using Basic authentication.
The URL for the Intrexx Update Server is: https://onlineupdate.intrexx.com
If you're performing updates from the command line, the settings in this dialog box are sufficient. If you want to perform updates using Portal Manager, you must also configure the appropriate settings in the dialog box. For more information, see the " Intrexx Options" section.
