Install ARR and URL Rewrite Modules via Web Platform Installer

Web Platform Installer discontinuation

The Web Platform Installer has been discontinued by Microsoft. The official support ended on 7/1/2022. As of 1/1/2023, the Web Platform Installer can no longer be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center (https://blogs.iis.net/iisteam/web-platform-installer-end-of-support-feed).
This eliminates the need to install the AAR module and the URL Rewrite module via the Web Platform Installer.

Instead, download the AAR module and the URL Rewrite module directly from Microsoft and then install the modules. For a detailed description of this, see section Manually install ARR and URL Rewrite modules.

Step-by-step guide

To install the ARR and URL Rewrite Module using the Web Platform Installer, follow these steps:

  1. Start IIS.

  2. Double-click on the Web Platform Installer.
    This will open the launch page for the Web Platform Installer.

  3. Type "routing" into the search field.

  4. Press "Enter".
    The search results will be shown.

  5. Select "Application Request Routing 3.0".

  6. Click on "Add".

  7. Click on "Install" and wait until the installation is finished.

  8. Accept the license terms.

  9. Click on "Finish".
    You have installed the ARR and URL Rewrite modules.

Check whether the installation was successful

Restart IIS.
The ARR and URL Rewrite elements should now be shown.
