1.4 Distinguishable

1.4 Distinguishable

Make it easier for users to see and hear content including separating foreground and background.

Use of Color

(A)

1.4.1 Use of color

1.4.1 Use of Color

Color is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.

9.1.4.1 Usable without colors

Information conveyed by colors should also be available without color perception, i.e. also highlighted by other means (such as bold or indentation).

Description

Information conveyed by colors should also be available without color perception, i.e. also highlighted by other means (such as bold or indentation).

Example A form contains both mandatory and optional fields. The required fields are marked by a red frame only. For people with limited color perception, this may not be sufficient to distinguish required fields from optional fields. In such cases, it would be useful to place an additional symbol next to the fields to indicate the difference between the fields.

Example In an application, red and green areas are displayed next to each other. For people with red-green color deficiency, the two areas cannot be distinguished from each other.

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

Implementation

The implementation of this guideline is primarily an editorial task for the application developer.

  • Accessible Intrexx layout

In the Intrexx Accessible Layout, the use of appropriate colors is taken into consideration. This is the case, for example, with the colors of buttons and fonts.

  • Generally, colors of elements and fonts can be adapted in Intrexx. Exceptions may exist in terms of diagrams, but even then the colors can be manipulated by the author.

Audio Control

(A)

1.4.2 Audio control element

1.4.2 Audio Control

If audio content on a web page is played automatically for more than 3 seconds, then there is either a mechanism to pause or stop playback, or there is a mechanism to control the volume independently of the general system volume.

9.1.4.2 Sound can be switched off

Automatic sounds that do not end after three seconds should be capable of being switched off.

Relevance and applicability

This success criterion is not relevant to Intrexx.

No sounds are generated in Intrexx.

Contrast(minimum)

(AA)

1.4.3 Contrast (minimum)

1.4.3 Contrast (minimum)

The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. Large-scale text and images of large-scale text have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1.

9.1.4.3 Contrasts of texts sufficient

All texts on the page should have sufficient brightness contrast in all states.

Description

The intent of this Success Criterion is to provide enough contrast between text and its background so that it can be read by people with moderately low vision (who do not use contrast-enhancing assistive technology).

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

Implementation

The implementation of this guideline is primarily an editorial task for the application developer.

  • Accessible Intrexx layout

In the Accessible Layout in Intrexx, the use of sufficient text contrast is considered.

  • The contrast of texts can be adjusted in Intrexx.

Resize text

(AA)

1.4.4 Change text size

1.4.4 Resize text

Except for captions and images of text, text can be resized without assistive technology up to 200 percent without loss of content or functionality.

9.1.4.4 Text can be enlarged to 200

Text can be resized up to 200 percent without loss of content or functionality. At least one of the following requirements must be met: The browser's zoom function can be used to increase the font size to 200% (the page often changes to a new layout) The font size can be increased using a control element at the top of the page

Description

The intent of this Success Criterion is to ensure that visually rendered text, including text-based controls can be scaled successfully so that it can be read directly by people with mild visual disabilities, without requiring the use of assistive technology such as a screen magnifier.

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

Implementation

Intrexx portal and application pages can easily be increased to 200% (using the browser's zoom function). Optimal display is guaranteed. The functionality of the page is fully retained.

Images of Text

(AA)

1.4.5 Images of a text

1.4.5 Images of Text

If the techniques used can achieve the visual presentation, then text is used instead of images of a text to convey information.

9.1.4.5 No font graphics

Graphics should not be used to display fonts. Logos are not included.

Relevance and applicability

This success criterion is not relevant to Intrexx.

Font graphics are not available for use in Intrexx. If they are used, this is the responsibility of the application developer.

Contrast (Enhanced)

(AAA)

1.4.6 Contrast (increased)

1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced)

The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 7:1.

Description

This success criterion corresponds to the criterion "Sufficient contrast of texts" listed above. However, the contrast requirement is even higher here, so that AAA level is achieved.

With a contrast ratio of 7:1, it compensates for the loss of contrast sensitivity experienced by visually impaired people without assistive technology, and also provides contrast enhancement for color defects.

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

Implementation

The implementation of this guideline is primarily an editorial task for the application developer.

In the Accessible Layout in Intrexx, the contrast is 4.5:1. As an application developer, you can increase the contrast to 7:1 in the "Design" module.

Low or No Background Audio

(AAA)

1.4.7 Quiet or no background audio content

1.4.7 Low or No Background Audio

Relevance and applicability

This success criterion is not relevant to Intrexx.

Intrexx does not use background audio.

Visual Presentation

(AAA)

1.4.8 Visual presentation

1.4.8 Visual Presentation

For the visual presentation of blocks of text, a mechanism is available to achieve the following:

- Foreground and background colors can be selected by the user.

- The width is no more than 80 characters or glyphs (40 if it is CJK).

- Text is not justified (aligned to both the left and the right margins).

- Line spacing (leading) is at least space-and-a-half within paragraphs, and paragraph spacing is at least 1.5 times larger than the line spacing.

- Text can be resized without assistive technology up to 200 percent in a way that does not require the user to scroll horizontally to read a line of text on a full-screen window.

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

Implementation

The implementation of this guideline is primarily an editorial task for the application developer.

Images of Text (No Exception)

(AAA)

1.4.9 Images of a text (no exception)

1.4.9 Images of Text (No Exception)

If the techniques used can achieve the visual presentation, then text is used instead of images of a text to convey information.

Relevance and applicability

This success criterion is not relevant to Intrexx.

Font graphics are not available for use in Intrexx. If they are used, this is the responsibility of the application developer.

Reflow

(AA)

1.4.10 Reflow

1.4.10 Reflow

Content can be presented without loss of information or functionality, and without requiring scrolling in two dimensions for:

  • vertical scrolling content at a width equivalent to 320 CSS pixels;

  • horizontal scrolling content at a height equivalent to 256 CSS pixels.

Except for parts of the content which require two-dimensional layout for usage or meaning.

9.1.4.10 Break content

Page content should wrap at a browser window width of 320 CSS pixels (or a browser window width of 1280 CSS pixels and 400% zoom) so that all information and functionality is available without the user having to scroll horizontally.

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

General implementation

Content in Intrexx breaks, unless the application developer has stored different configurations in the properties of an element. This does not apply to the data tables and images allowed as exceptions, as well as other elements that require a two-dimensional layout.

Non-text Contrast

(AA)

1.4.11 Non-text contrast

1.4.11 Non-text Contrast

The visual presentation of the following have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1 against adjacent color(s)

User interface components Visual information needed to identify user interface components and states, except for inactive components or when the appearance of the component is determined by the user agent and not changed by the author;

Graphic objects Parts of graphics that are necessary for understanding the content, unless a particular presentation of graphics is indispensable for the information to be conveyed.

9.1.4.11 Sufficient contrast of graphics and graphic control elements

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

General implementation

The implementation of this guideline is primarily an editorial task for the application developer.

In general, all graphic controls can be marked with additional text or text alternatives.

Text Spacing

(AA)

1.4.12 Text Spacing

In content implemented using markup languages that support the following text style properties, no loss of content or functionality occurs by setting all of the following and by changing no other style property:

- Line height (line spacing) to at least 1.5 times the font size;

- Spacing following paragraphs to at least 2 times the font size;

- Letter spacing (tracking) to at least 0.12 times the font size;

- Word spacing to at least 0.16 times the font size.

9.1.4.12 Customizable text spacing

Relevance and applicability

Content on Hover or Focus

(AA)

1.4.13 Content when moving over with the pointer or keyboard focus

1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus

Where receiving and then removing pointer hover or keyboard focus triggers additional content to become visible and then hidden, the following are true:

Discardable There is a mechanism to discard the additional content without moving the pointer or keyboard focus, unless the additional content communicates an input error or does not obscure or replace other content;

Movable over If additional content can be triggered by moving the pointer over it, the pointer can be moved over the additional content without the additional content disappearing;

Persistent The additional content remains visible until the "Hover" or "Focus" trigger is removed, the user discards it or the associated information is no longer valid.

9.1.4.13 Operable overlaid content

Relevance and applicability

This guideline is relevant when implementing accessibility for your portal.

General implementation

The implementation of this guideline is primarily an editorial task for the application developer.

Fade-in content can be set in Intrexx. The Web author is responsible for avoiding an inappropriate fade-in.
