Data transfer

The Data Transfer feature is the universal data hub when it comes to a one-time or also recurring, timer-controlled import or export of data. You can choose from a variety of data sources or destinations. Whether your data is read from or written to Excel, CSV files, databases of all kinds, XML files, Data Transfer supports you with convenient wizards. A variety of modes for this is available: You can replace the data in the target, append new data and/or also update data.

Data Transfer is always the tool of choice when you want to further process data in other tools or cannot access data from an external data source in real time. Exchanging data between Intrexx applications and platforms is especially convenient.

If the multitude of possibilities the wizards offer should ever be insufficient for your use case, you can use Groovy script to manipulate, enrich or sort out the data as you wish before or after the import.

The timer control allows the definition of arbitrary intervals and, of course, the possibility to execute a job only manually. In particular, the ability to cascade Data Transfer jobs greatly expands the range of applications and allows even the most complex data structures to be synchronized reliably and automatically.

Using a data transfer, data from various sources can be transferred to targets of different types. The following types can be used as both the source and target:

  • Intrexx portal databases

  • Registered JDBC data sources

  • JDBC

  • OpenOffice Calc Spreadsheet

  • Text files

  • XML files

  • Groovy script

Microsoft Excel files can also be used as a source. A data transfer can be executed as a one-time event or automatically at fixed times.

New connection

Selecting Edit menu / New connection will open a wizard where a new data transfer can be created. This option is available if the "Data transfer" option is selected on the left-hand side. In each configuration dialog, you can reach the corresponding Intrexx Help by pressing F1 or by clicking on the "Help" button.

Edit connection

Every connection created by you is listed in the right-hand area. All of the functions available for editing a connection can be reached via the Edit menu, when an existing connection has been selected on the right.

Before running a new connection, always create a database backup. Errors made in the settings can, in certain circumstances, lead to a loss of original data. United Planet can offer no support in this case.

Name column

The name of the data field is shown here.

Description column

The description of the data transfer is shown here.

Status column

The status of the transfer is shown here.

Start data transfer

Once a data transfer has been started, the start and end date, as well as the status of their progress will be shown on the right. The progress of a job will be shown as a percentage during execution, and an error-free run will be shown as "Successful". Please check the connection settings if a job is not completed without errors.

Data that is imported into a portal application using the Data transfer is not automatically indexed for the search. The indexing of the target application can be triggered automatically in the Tools modulein the Task scheduler (Task scheduler menu / Start in the Task scheduler).
